(without the burnout, giving up your firstborn in exchange for a high converting FB ad, or late-night launch meltdowns spent crying into a pint of Ben & Jerry’s)
I did it at AOL, YAHOO!, Vibrant Media & Funny Or Die back in the Wild West days of the internet when you had to yell at your mom to hang up the phone so you could AIM with your crush.
But after 12 ½ years of wearing collared shirts with buttons and sleeves annnnnd being a doormat with hair to pre-pubescent a-holes who dictated whether I got my commissions or not…
Now after 7 years in business, a top-rated marketing podcast, and lots of trial and error I’ve created a sustainable 7-figure business that works even when I’m not.
After helping tens of thousands of students grow their online businesses through strategic marketing, I realized the one thing 99% of entrepreneurs were missing was...
But the reality is FB & IG ads a just ONE piece of the business puzzle. My real superpower these days is helping my students examine their business so they can pare down to scale up (that and annoying my wife, I’m really good at that.)
I help you optimize your time, offers & systems so you can launch to the tune of multiple 6-figures and still close your laptop in time for family movie night.
I help you take the emotions out of your numbers and find the mindset, marketing & productivity blocks keeping you stuck.
- Jim Mulready aka my Dad aka the best man that ever lived
Because what's the point of running your own business if you can't have some damn fun?
Those two words don't come easy to my type A, anxiety-ridden brain, but they're the words I live (and work) by.
(If you just sang that like Jean Ralphio from Parks & Rec we’re gonna be good friends.)
That hashtag laptop lifestyle, sleeping in, working a cool 12-2 in my zip-up hoodie all day every day, while backstroking in an unhealthy amount of hundred-dollar bills because I'm fluuuuuuuushed with caaaaaaaaaaaash.
I thought I had all the marketing savvy I needed from my corporate advertising days to run a Facebook Ads business.
Turns out, I didn't suck too bad at it, either.
My 6th sense for driving traffic through Facebook Ads (and my ummm… well… shall we say, intensity?) got my business to 7-figures, but...
It almost killed me, too.
It took me only 4 years to hit the big M and when I finally landed that aspirational 7-figure goal my health, my marriage, and my anxiety was THE WORST it's ever been.
My spiral into depression & anxiety in the midst of 7-figure “success" challenged me to hold up a big ol’ mirror to my business and my priorities.
...and then I had to dig deep into my numbers.
Like, really deep.
I had to peel back the layers like a smelly business onion and figure out how to do this entrepreneur life with my brain, health, and marriage intact.
I had to get a little woo (but only a little—I don't have Buddha statues in my back yard or burn incense (mainly because I'm allergic to it)) and address some serious fear & self-doubt…
Once I realized that 80% of my hustle only led to burnout, not revenue, I was able to find the 20% that lit me up AND kept my business working (even when I wasn't).
Now, as a recovering Type-A workaholic, I clock out at 4:30 pm with enough time to have dinner with my family & spend my evenings reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar to my daughter, Maya, and lounging on the couch with my wife, Amy.
And I teach my students to do the same.
